Health Minister Esperance Luvindao officially declared the end of two separate disease outbreaks that threatened communities in the Erongo and Omaheke regions. The announcement marks a significant public health victory for the southern African nation.

The mpox outbreak in Swakopmund district started on October 19, 2025, after health officials confirmed the country's first case. Over the next few days, two more cases emerged, bringing the total to three confirmed infections.

All three patients made full recoveries and left isolation on November 12, 2025. No deaths occurred, and health teams tracked the final case on October 21 before transmission stopped completely.

The ministry waited 90 consecutive days without new infections before making the official declaration. This careful approach ensured the disease had truly been contained.

In the Omaheke region, a separate battle unfolded against Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, a viral disease spread through tick bites or contact with infected bodily fluids. Health officials confirmed a single case on November 21, 2025, and declared an outbreak seven days later.

The patient sadly died from the illness, but trained personnel conducted a safe burial following strict safety protocols. Health workers then monitored every person who had contact with the patient.

After 28 days passed with no additional cases, the ministry declared victory over this outbreak too. All contacts completed their monitoring period without getting sick.
