Naperville Nonprofit Breaks Pickleball Record With 500 Kids

😊 Feel Good

A youth wellness nonprofit just doubled a Guinness World Record by teaching 500 students pickleball at the same time across multiple locations. The coordinated lesson connected schools throughout three Illinois counties in one uplifting moment of teamwork and fun.

More than 500 students across Illinois just became world record holders while learning a new sport and supporting their mental health.

KidsMatter, a Naperville nonprofit focused on youth wellness, shattered the Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous pickleball lesson on Thursday. The organization brought together students from schools across DuPage, Will and Kane counties for a coordinated 30-minute session that nearly doubled the previous record of 250 participants.

"The record was 250 and so we were shooting for at least 251," said Nina Menis, CEO and executive director of KidsMatter. "We were excited that we were able to get that accomplished."

The lesson was led by Coach Joe from Sure Shot Pickleball and streamed live to multiple school gyms and community sites. Students from Naperville North, West Aurora, Lisle, Lockport and homeschool groups all participated at the same time, practicing basic pickleball techniques together despite being miles apart.

The logistics took a full year to plan. Menis and her team coordinated with physical education programs across the region to make the ambitious event possible. "We were zooming all over to different schools and areas in the community," Menis said.

The Ripple Effect

The record attempt wasn't just about getting into the history books. KidsMatter designed the event to align with its core mission of supporting youth mental health and wellness through physical activity and community connection.

Physical education teachers played a crucial role in making the event happen, demonstrating how schools can work together to create memorable experiences for students. The simultaneous lesson showed hundreds of young people that they're part of something bigger than themselves.

Students walked away with new pickleball skills, a world record achievement, and the experience of being connected to peers across their communities. The event proved that innovative approaches to youth wellness can break records and bring joy at the same time.

"We are just so proud of everybody that participated, and we hope everybody just had a great time being part of it and learning something new," Menis said. "We're just leaning in with gratitude and enjoying the moment."
