Nebraska Town Gets Free Reading Program for Struggling Kids

Families in Kimball, Nebraska will soon have access to a program that's helping children across the state become stronger readers.

The Kimball Public Library will host Prime Time Family Reading starting October 15th, a free six-week program designed for families with children ages six to ten who need extra reading support. Sessions run every Thursday at 6 p.m. through November 19th, and younger siblings are welcome to join the activities too.

Kimball is one of five Nebraska communities bringing the program to their town for the first time. Humanities Nebraska, which runs the statewide effort, combines storytelling and discussion using award-winning children's books to make reading feel less like homework and more like quality family time.

The timing matters because early reading struggles can snowball into bigger academic challenges. When kids fall behind in elementary school, catching up gets harder each year.
