Netherlands Approves 86% of Skilled Worker Visa Applications

The Netherlands approved more than 86% of applications for skilled migrant visas last year, opening doors for thousands of professionals seeking to build their futures in the country.

The IND immigration service processed 84,480 residency permit applications in 2025, with Indian nationals, Turkish citizens, and Americans leading the way. Almost seven in ten applications for lower skilled work permits also received approval, with workers from Ukraine, India, and the Philippines comprising the largest groups.

Beyond work visas, more than 51,000 people took the significant step of applying for Dutch citizenship, choosing to make the Netherlands their permanent home. The naturalization process requires applicants to give up their original nationality, demonstrating a deep commitment to becoming part of Dutch society.

People from Syria, India, and Turkey topped the list of new Dutch citizens. Each represents a story of someone choosing to fully embrace their new country and contribute to its diverse fabric.

The immigration service also handled 24,070 first time asylum applications, down from the previous year. While processing times for asylum claims remain challenging, averaging over a year instead of the legal six month limit, the system continues moving forward.
