New Brunswick Swimmer Wins Third Straight World Title

When Danielle Dorris touched the wall at her fourth World Para Swimming Championships, she became part of an elite club that only two other Canadians have ever joined.

The Moncton swimmer won gold in the 50-meter butterfly for the third championship in a row. She joins Canadian Paralympic legends Benoît Huot and Aurélie Rivard as the only athletes from her country to achieve this feat.

But Dorris didn't stop at one medal. She brought home three different colors from the championship: gold in the 50-meter butterfly, silver in the 100-meter backstroke, and bronze in the 50-meter freestyle. That brings her career total to nine world championship medals.

Her dominance in the pool earned her Swimming Canada's Paralympic Female Swimmer of the Year award. Two years ago, she shared the honor with teammate Tess Routliffe. This year, the recognition was hers alone.

"The feeling of being named swimmer of the year does not get old," Dorris said. She added that winning it on her own made it especially meaningful.
