Imagine an electric bike you could ride through mud, hose off in your driveway, and never worry about greasy chains or broken derailleurs again.
Priority Bicycles just made that dream real with their new E-Sauce e-bike, which ditches traditional chain systems entirely for a revolutionary approach. Instead of packing on more gears like most competitors, the New York company went radically simple with a single-speed design powered by an industrial carbon belt.
The carbon-reinforced belt system means zero grease, zero rust, and zero tedious maintenance sessions. When it gets muddy, riders can literally spray it clean with a garden hose.
Traditional e-bikes face a brutal challenge when powerful motors meet fragile metal chains. Links stretch, gears slip out of alignment, and derailleurs bend at the slightest bump against a bike rack. Owners spend hours degreasing, scrubbing, and reapplying lubricants that immediately attract road grit.
Priority founder Dave Weiner built his entire company around eliminating that headache. Since launching via Kickstarter in 2014, he partnered with industrial belt manufacturer Gates Corporation to create maintenance-free bikes for everyone from commuters to kids.

The E-Sauce tackles the biggest problem with single-speed bikes through clever software. A torque sensor powers natural pedaling up to 20 mph, then the system automatically switches to cadence sensing that detects pedal rotation and pushes the motor to 28 mph. Smart coding replaces mechanical gears entirely.
The 750-watt rear motor runs on a removable 720-watt-hour battery tucked in the frame. That delivers 20 to 60 miles of range depending on terrain and how aggressively riders use the handlebar throttle.
At 59 pounds, the E-Sauce weighs significantly less than competing fat-tire e-bikes that often exceed 75 pounds. The aluminum frame, hydraulic disc brakes, and 27.5-inch wheels with knobby tires handle everything from potholed city streets to gravel trails.
Why This Inspires
In a market racing to add features and complexity, Priority chose subtraction. They recognized that most riders don't need 10 gears; they need bikes that work reliably without constant fussing. The E-Sauce represents a refreshing philosophy where less maintenance means more riding and more joy.
The direct-to-consumer approach also matters in an e-bike market now topping one million annual sales in North America. By selling online at $2,199, Priority bypasses traditional bike shop markups while betting customers value long-term durability over bottom-dollar pricing.
The E-Sauce proves innovation isn't always about adding more; sometimes the smartest solution is taking something complicated and making it beautifully simple.
