New Mexico Softball Wins First Tournament Game in 21 Years

After more than two decades of waiting, the New Mexico Lobos softball team finally tasted tournament victory again.

The Lobos defeated Fresno State 7-2 on Wednesday in Reno, capturing their first Mountain West Conference tournament win since 2005. The victory came in dramatic fashion, with three home runs launching New Mexico into the next round against top-ranked Grand Canyon.

Pinch hitter Ella Dawson made the biggest splash, stepping off the bench to crush a home run and drive in two crucial runs. Her clutch performance showed the depth of talent coach Paula Congleton has built in Albuquerque.

Allie Williams and Jessica Deleon each added their own home runs to the offensive fireworks. Williams scored twice and drove in two runs, while Deleon matched her RBI total, giving the Lobos the firepower they needed to dominate.
