New Mum Georgia Hall Returns to Golf Major 5 Months After Birth

Just five months after welcoming her son Conor, British golfer Georgia Hall is back competing at one of golf's biggest tournaments on the very course where she made history.

Hall won the 2018 Women's Open at Royal Lytham and St Annes when she was only 22 years old, becoming the most recent British woman to claim a major championship. Now she's returned to that same Fylde coast venue, this time with her baby boy and family cheering her on.

The new mum didn't even know if she'd be able to play again this season. Six weeks after giving birth, she picked up a golf club at an Irish driving range, half expecting to struggle with the simplest shots.

"I was really excited because I didn't know how I was going to hit it and thought I might top it or something," Hall said. She left that practice session thinking one thing: let's see if I can get back to Lytham.

Weeks later, she proved she could. Hall returned to professional golf and made the cut at tournaments in France, the Netherlands, and Belgium, convincing herself she was ready for the major stage again.

Hall is chasing history in more ways than one. Her former Solheim Cup captain Catriona Matthew won this same tournament at Lytham in 2009, just 11 weeks after giving birth.

When Hall asked Matthew for advice, the Scottish legend kept it simple: manage your expectations and be patient with yourself. "You've been out of it for a year. You've given birth to a human," Hall recalled Matthew telling her.

The advice resonated. Hall isn't putting pressure on herself to recreate her 2018 victory on the remodeled, tougher course. Instead, she's focused on improvement and enjoying the moment.

She's already secured one precious win this week: a family photo on the 18th green with baby Conor. "It'll be my new screensaver," she said with a smile.

Eight years ago, that same green held memories of clutching a prestigious trophy. But Hall's fondest memory isn't the hardware. It's the feeling of accomplishment, of holing crucial putts when they mattered most.

Hall will marry Conor's father Paul Dunne, himself a talented golfer who once led the Open as an amateur. Their son has impeccable golfing genes and a mother showing him that dreams don't end when new ones begin.
