New Platform Lets Hill Staffers Rate Congressional Bosses

Working for Congress just got more transparent. A new platform called "The Scoop" lets Capitol Hill staffers anonymously rate and review the lawmakers they work for, bringing much-needed accountability to congressional workplaces.

Former congressional staffer David Tennent launched the platform through Capitol CNCT on July 20. He created it after watching young staffers struggle to identify toxic offices through whisper networks and anonymous social media accounts.

"I wanted to create something that gave a little bit more transparency to the process and help staffers find the best opportunities available," Tennent explained. The platform verifies every reviewer actually works in the office they're rating, preventing fake reviews and political attacks.

The verification process is rigorous. Capitol CNCT checks House and Senate email addresses and screens all reviews before publishing them. Only verified current or former staffers can leave feedback about their offices.

Just one week after launch, reviews are already painting a picture of workplace culture across Capitol Hill. Republican offices are getting reviewed almost twice as often as Democratic ones so far, showing early engagement from staff eager to share their experiences.

The Ripple Effect

The platform's timing couldn't be better. It launched during a year of heightened scrutiny around congressional workplace culture, giving staffers a constructive outlet to share their experiences.

Tennent hopes the platform will do more than just warn job seekers about bad offices. He envisions it as a tool for positive change, where chiefs of staff and members can see honest feedback and improve their leadership.

"Our hope is that if a chief of staff or a member sees that their office is very poorly rated, that over time they're gonna go, 'Oh, this is a wake-up call for me,'" Tennent said. The goal is helping offices boost morale and improve communication.

Unlike most workplaces, Capitol Hill has no centralized human resources department for congressional offices. This makes reporting toxic behavior incredibly difficult for young staffers who may be early in their careers.

The platform fills that gap by creating accountability where none existed before. Staffers can now make informed decisions about where to work, and lawmakers have real incentive to create healthy, supportive environments for their teams.

Tennent's biggest concern was avoiding a "political retribution platform" where people could attack others without proof. The strict verification process ensures every review comes from someone with direct experience in that office.

Now young people considering careers on Capitol Hill have a roadmap for finding offices where they'll be valued, respected, and set up for success.
