NFL Star Darius Slay Retires After 13 Seasons, Super Bowl

After more than a decade of excellence on the football field, cornerback Darius Slay announced his retirement Monday with gratitude and hope for what's ahead.

"This game put me in a position to take care of my family and loved ones and I'm forever grateful," Slay wrote in a statement shared on social media. "It's hard to say goodbye, but God has a new chapter for me and I'm ready to turn the page and start my new journey."

The 35-year-old defender leaves behind an impressive legacy built over 13 NFL seasons. He earned six Pro Bowl selections, first-team All-Pro honors in 2017, and recorded 28 career interceptions along with 163 passes defended.

Slay's career began in 2013 when the Detroit Lions selected him in the second round out of Mississippi State. After seven seasons establishing himself as one of the league's top corners in Detroit, he joined the Philadelphia Eagles in 2020.

His five-year tenure with Philadelphia culminated in the ultimate prize. Slay won a Super Bowl with the Eagles in 2024, capping his time in the City of Brotherly Love with the championship that had eluded him earlier in his career.

Last season, Slay joined the Pittsburgh Steelers and appeared in 10 games. When the Buffalo Bills claimed him off waivers in December, he chose not to report as he contemplated his future in the game.
