Nigeria and Finland Partner on €23M Digital Skills Push

Nigeria is about to get a major boost in its race to become Africa's digital powerhouse, thanks to a new partnership with Finland and the European Union.

On March 23, Nigeria's communications minister Bosun Tijani and Finland's under-secretary of state Jarno Syrjälä signed an agreement in Abuja that opens the door for serious collaboration. The deal covers digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, emerging technologies, and training programs designed to equip Nigeria's youth with cutting-edge tech skills.

The partnership comes with real money behind it. Finland is leading a €23 million Team Europe initiative, funded by the EU, to help Nigeria strengthen its digital public services and roll out an ambitious plan to train three million technical talents.

For Nigeria, Africa's most populous nation with over 200 million people, this represents a strategic shift away from oil dependency. The country has been investing heavily in its digital future, and international partners are taking notice.
