Nigeria and Thailand Partner on Agriculture Innovation

Nigeria is teaming up with Thailand to revolutionize agriculture and cooperative development, bringing cutting-edge farming innovation to millions of people across West Africa.

The two nations signed historic agreements on August 27, 2026, in Lagos, launching practical programs focused on training, research, and digital transformation. The partnership connects Thailand's Kasetsart University with Nigeria's Federal Cooperative College, creating direct knowledge exchange between agricultural experts.

"We have witnessed the strengthening of a partnership founded on knowledge, capacity development, innovation, and shared prosperity," said Senator Dr. Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, Nigeria's Minister of State for Agriculture. The agreements support Nigeria's Renewed Hope Cooperative Reform and Revamp Programme, a comprehensive plan to modernize farming cooperatives by 2030.

The timing couldn't be better. Nigeria has enormous agricultural potential and a young, energetic population ready to transform the sector. Thailand brings decades of experience in cooperative development, agricultural research, and innovation that has lifted millions out of poverty.
