Nigeria Honors 13 Role Models Fighting Values Erosion

Nigeria's Hallmarks of Labour Foundation just honored 13 citizens whose lives prove that character still counts in a changing world.

At the 29th annual Role Model Award ceremony, former Commonwealth Secretary General Chief Emeka Anyaoku presented recognition to individuals who built their success through integrity, hard work, and service. Six of the honorees were celebrated posthumously, their legacies still shining bright.

The foundation specifically chose people whose careers show young Nigerians what's possible when you combine talent with values. Among them: Mr. Mahmud Ahmed for advancing good governance, Prof. Adeyinka Falusi for groundbreaking genetic research, and Prof. Francisca Okeke for her contributions to science.

Anyaoku acknowledged the challenges facing Nigeria's youth today, particularly the temptation of celebrating wealth without asking where it came from. But instead of dwelling on problems, he pointed toward solutions: agriculture, manufacturing, technology, and entrepreneurship as fields where young people can channel their energy into building real value.

Why This Inspires

The foundation isn't just handing out awards and hoping for change. Since launching their scholarship program in 2008, they've supported over 400 secondary students and helped produce more than 50 university graduates.

They've built science labs and computer facilities in underserved communities. They've organized workshops teaching civic responsibility. They've identified young talent and equipped students with leadership skills.

Executive Secretary Patricia Otuedon emphasized that Nigeria still has abundant human capital ready to drive positive change. The foundation's 29-year track record proves she's right.
