Nigeria Leads World in AI Adoption at 88%

Nigeria just claimed the top spot in the global AI revolution, and it's changing how millions learn, work, and dream.

A new Google and Ipsos report reveals that 88% of Nigerian adults now use AI chatbots. That's 18 points higher than last year and crushes the global average of 62%.

But this isn't just about using fancy technology. Nigerians are putting AI to work in powerful ways that matter for their futures.

About 93% use AI to understand complex topics, compared to 74% globally. Another 91% rely on it to help with their jobs, making work easier and more productive.

The entrepreneurial spirit stands out most. A remarkable 80% of Nigerians use AI to explore new business ideas or career changes. That's nearly double the global average of 42%.

"This report goes beyond high adoption rates," said Taiwo Kola-Ogunlade, Google's Communications Manager for West Africa. "It tells the story of a nation actively shaping its future with technology."

The Ripple Effect

The optimism spreading through Nigeria around AI could reshape the country's economic future. When 91% of people believe AI positively impacts learning and education (compared to 65% globally), that confidence creates momentum for real change.

Schools and universities stand to benefit most. An overwhelming 95% of Nigerians believe students and educators will gain from AI tools, opening doors to knowledge that might have stayed closed before.

The excitement keeps growing the more people use it. Among daily AI users, optimism jumps to 90%. Only 20% express concerns, while 80% feel genuinely excited about AI's possibilities.

Young professionals and students across Lagos, Abuja, and beyond are already using these tools to level up their skills, launch side businesses, and access world-class learning materials. AI is becoming the great equalizer, putting powerful resources in anyone's hands with a smartphone.
