Nigeria Police Rescue 2 Kidnapped Kids, Arrest 4 Suspects

Two children are sleeping in their own beds tonight after Nigerian police tracked down their kidnappers and brought them home safely from a forest hideout.

Armed criminals stormed Ebinpejo Village near Lanlate in Oyo State on Friday, June 27, raiding homes and taking two children. Within hours, Commissioner of Police Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga mobilized a joint team including police, the Amotekun Corps, local vigilante groups, and hunters to find them.

Using intelligence and community tips, the security team located the hideout deep in the forest by Saturday morning. When the kidnappers opened fire, officers responded and forced them to scatter, capturing suspect Umaru Usman who was wounded trying to escape.

A second suspect, Abdullahi Ahmed, was arrested hours later with injuries from the firefight. He received medical treatment and remains in custody. Investigators then caught Sunday Idowu, a local man accused of helping the gang with logistics, and Muhammed Ibrahim Shina, who allegedly traveled from Kwara State to join the kidnapping.

Both children were found alive and received medical checkups. One child needed treatment for injuries suffered during captivity before the happy reunion with their family.

The Ripple Effect

This rescue shows what happens when police work hand in hand with community security groups. The collaboration between official law enforcement, traditional hunters, and local vigilantes created a network too strong for criminals to escape.

The same investigative work led to another major bust. Following up on a June 12 arrest, police tracked an armed robbery gang to their Lagos hideout. Though the suspects fled, officers recovered two Russian double barrel guns, one pump action rifle, one revolver pistol, and 36 live cartridges.

The Oyo State Police Command credited local residents for providing the timely information that made both operations successful. Their message is clear: when communities and police trust each other enough to share intelligence quickly, children come home and dangerous weapons get off the streets.

All four kidnapping suspects are helping investigators locate other gang members. Authorities promise both cases will go to court once investigations wrap up.
