Nigeria Police Rescue 6 Children, Reunite Families

Six children stolen from their families are sleeping in their own beds tonight, thanks to a successful police operation in Nigeria's Abia State.

Police arrested 51-year-old Nnamdi Lazarus after an intelligence-led operation uncovered six missing children in his custody. The youngest victims were just three years old.

The Violent Crime Response Unit in Aba North tracked down the suspect in Uratta, Aba, following careful investigative work. Among the rescued children were siblings Nnenna Ogbuogu, 5, and Nwanne Ogbuogu, 3, from Abriba, along with four other young victims from nearby Item.

All six children have already been reunited with their families. Police spokeswoman Maureen Chinaka confirmed that investigations continue to identify and arrest other members of the suspected trafficking syndicate.

This rescue represents more than six families made whole again. It signals a turning point in Abia State's approach to organized crime.

The police command has intensified intelligence-led operations across the state in recent months. They've arrested 13 suspected armed robbers and cultists, recovered weapons, and secured convictions against two child molesters.
