Nigeria Tops Africa at Commonwealth Games with 10 Medals

Nigeria is having its best Commonwealth Games in years, sitting fourth on the medal table after four days of competition in Glasgow and ahead of every other African country.

The team has won 10 medals so far: six gold and four silver. Only Australia, England, and Canada have won more medals overall, and Nigeria even ranks ahead of host nation Scotland.

The gold medals tell a story of strength. Para powerlifters Esther Nworgu, Folashade Oluwafemiayo, and Riluwan Idris each won their events, while teammates Roland Ezuruike, Esther Oyema, and Rita Ferdinand took home silver medals.

Weightlifters joined the party with three more golds. Edidiong Umoafia won the men's 71kg class with a Commonwealth Games record total of 319kg, proving that months of preparation paid off.

Then Onome Omolola Didih stunned everyone in the women's 53kg event. She didn't just win gold—she set Commonwealth Games and Commonwealth records in the snatch, clean and jerk, and total lift.

Reigning champion Rafiatu Folashade Lawal defended her women's 58kg title and also broke records in all three lifts. Ruth Asuquo Nyong added a fourth silver medal in the women's 48kg category.
