Nigeria Trains 11,700 Teachers in AI for Digital Classrooms

Nearly 12,000 teachers across Nigeria are about to get a powerful upgrade that could change education for hundreds of thousands of students.

The Federal Government just launched a nationwide AI training program for all 11,700 teachers in federal unity colleges. Officials signed the agreement Thursday with ICEDT Consult Limited to roll out the AI Teacher Capacity Development Programme across all six geopolitical zones.

The program grew from a small but successful pilot. Six federal unity colleges, one in each zone, tested how AI could help teachers plan lessons, deliver instruction, assess students, and boost overall productivity. The results convinced officials to expand nationwide.

"This is a strategic investment in Nigeria's teaching workforce and the future of education," said Gabriel Amudipe, Director of Education Support Services. The initiative aligns with President Bola Tinubu's plan to modernize Nigeria's schools and prepare students for a technology-driven economy.
