Nigerian Church Donates $266K to Rescue 500 from Violence

The Redeemed Christian Church of God donated $265,854 to help bring 500 Nigerians home from South Africa, where ongoing xenophobic violence has turned deadly. The gift covers one-way airfare for citizens caught in the crisis.

Led by Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the church partnered with Nigeria's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to coordinate the evacuation. The donation joins a broader rescue effort that has already brought 1,640 Nigerians home since violence escalated in April.

At least five Nigerians have died in the attacks, which prompted several African nations to begin repatriating their citizens. Ghana, Mozambique, Malawi, and Zimbabwe have also evacuated people from South Africa in recent months.

The ministry called the church's contribution proof of "compassion, solidarity and commitment to supporting Nigerians in distress." They hope it inspires more collaboration between faith organizations and government agencies.
