Nigerian Graduate John Arum Freed After Highway Kidnapping

A Nigerian university graduate is reunited with his family after a terrifying ordeal that ended in relief and thanksgiving.

John Arum, who graduated from the University of Jos (UNIJOS), was freed this week after spending several days in the hands of kidnappers. He was traveling from Jos in Plateau State to Kaduna State when armed men intercepted his vehicle along the notorious Jos-Kaduna highway.

Six other passengers were abducted alongside Arum during the attack. While Arum's safe return brings immense relief, the fate of the other victims remains unknown.

The University of Jos Alumni Association confirmed Arum's release on Wednesday through their Global President, Gad Peter Shamaki. He shared the news with fellow graduates, calling it "a moment of thanksgiving."

"We are relieved and grateful to share that John Arum, our fellow Josite, has been safely released and is now back home with his family," Shamaki told reporters in Jos. The alumni community had been actively following the situation since news of the kidnapping first broke.

In times of crisis, communities often reveal their deepest strengths. The University of Jos alumni network rallied around one of their own, maintaining hope and support throughout Arum's captivity. Their collective prayers and efforts contributed to keeping his story visible until his safe return.

Shamaki's statement reflected both celebration and continued concern. "As we celebrate this good news, let us continue to keep him in our thoughts and prayers for full recovery, strength and peace in the days ahead," he said.

The alumni president also reminded everyone that the fight isn't over. "We also remember others still in similar situations and pray for their safe return," he added, acknowledging the six passengers whose families still await good news.

Arum is now recovering at home, surrounded by loved ones who feared the worst but held onto hope. His safe return serves as a beacon for families of other kidnapping victims across Nigeria who continue waiting for their own moments of reunion.
