Nigerian Navy Stops Oil Thieves, Recovers 103K Litres

The Nigerian Navy is winning the fight against oil thieves in Rivers State, dismantling three illegal refining sites and recovering 103,000 litres of stolen fuel in a single operation.

On August 22, personnel from Nigerian Navy Ship Pathfinder raided sites around the Ohaji axis after receiving intelligence tips. They discovered 12 dugout pits, multiple storage reservoirs, and two pumping machines used to process stolen crude oil into diesel.

The thieves fled before the Navy arrived, leaving behind their entire operation. This marked the second successful raid in the same area within just one week.

Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho explained that the repeated operations are preventing criminals from rebuilding their infrastructure. Every time the thieves try to restart their illegal refining, the Navy shuts them down again.

The recovered products and equipment were handled according to established procedures for combating oil theft. While no arrests were made during this particular raid, the operation successfully destroyed the capacity for future criminal activity in the area.

These Navy operations protect more than just oil. When criminals steal crude oil and refine it illegally, they damage the environment with toxic waste and rob Nigeria of revenue that could fund schools, hospitals, and infrastructure.
