Nigerian Police Rescue 9 Kidnapping Victims in Edo State

Nine kidnapping victims are reuniting with their loved ones tonight after Nigerian police mounted an intensive rescue operation in Edo State.

The Edo State Police Command rescued the victims from two separate kidnapping incidents that occurred along the busy Benin-Lagos Expressway. Three of the rescued individuals were passengers on a GUO transport bus that was attacked by gunmen. Six others had been held captive in the Imiegba forest near Agenebode after being abducted earlier this month.

Commissioner of Police Monday Agbonika immediately deployed tactical teams, intelligence assets, and aerial surveillance when the kidnappings were reported. The coordinated response included sustained bush-combing operations that put pressure on the kidnappers and led to the safe recovery of all nine victims.

All rescued individuals received medical evaluation and treatment before being reunited with their families. None of the victims sustained life-threatening injuries during their ordeal or rescue.

The initial attack on the GUO bus turned deadly when gunmen opened fire on the vehicle, killing the driver and forcing the bus to stop. Witnesses reported that passengers were dragged into the bush, though quick police action prevented a longer captivity.
