Nigerian entrepreneurs working on cybersecurity technology for African infrastructure protection

Nigerian Startup Aeon Raises $1M for African Cybersecurity

🤯 Mind Blown

A Nigerian cybersecurity startup just secured $1 million to protect critical infrastructure across Africa with hardware and AI tools built specifically for the Global South. Three engineers who worked in cloud infrastructure are now tackling a massive security gap that leaves banks and governments vulnerable.

Three Nigerian engineers saw the same problem everywhere they looked: companies juggling a dozen different security tools while hackers slipped through the cracks.

Now their startup Aeon has raised $1 million in pre-seed funding to fix it. Terra Industries, a hardware company that's already raised $51.7 million this year, led the round alongside Resilience17, the investment firm founded by Flutterwave CEO Olugbenga Agboola.

Samuel Ogbonyomi, Ben Eluan and Alex Idowu founded Aeon after building cloud infrastructure products at PipeOps. They kept hearing the same frustration from operators: too many security tools, no unified view of vulnerabilities, and attackers who exploited the gaps between systems.

Aeon's solution comes in two parts. Aeon Edge is a physical hardware unit that secures networks and data at the entry point. Aeon Console is an AI-powered platform that monitors code, cloud environments and devices from a single screen, catching vulnerabilities and managing compliance reporting.

The startup didn't pitch Terra cold. Aeon was already managing parts of Terra's infrastructure before any investment talks began. When Ogbonyomi's team decided to build the product formally, Terra became the natural first partner.

Pilots are already running with Nigerian banks and cloud infrastructure companies. Terra tested Aeon earlier this year with strong enough results that the two companies formed a joint venture to pursue corporate and government contracts together across the Global South.

The Ripple Effect

The partnership divides cleanly: Terra handles physical security while Aeon manages digital defense. The vision is ambitious: banks, major corporations, governments and militaries running their cyber operations on Aeon's technology stack.

Right now, African organizations patch together managed service providers and separate security solutions. Aeon's bet is that a single unified layer covering on-premises systems, cloud platforms and hybrid setups can replace that fragmented approach entirely.

Terra CEO Nathan Nwachuku sees the opportunity clearly: organizations across the Global South need cybersecurity tools built for their specific infrastructure challenges, not repurposed Western solutions. With shared investors including DFS Labs, Kaleo Ventures and Resilience17, both companies are backed by people who understand the African tech landscape.

The million-dollar round gives Aeon runway to expand its pilots and prove that homegrown African cybersecurity can protect the continent's critical infrastructure better than imported alternatives.
