Nigerian University Graduates 88 First-Class Students

A Nigerian university just proved that excellence is alive and thriving, graduating 88 first-class honors students in a ceremony that celebrates both academic achievement and expanding opportunity.

Osun State University (UNIOSUN) in Osogbo held its 16th convocation ceremony on Saturday, awarding degrees to 4,357 students across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. The 88 first-class graduates represent the university's commitment to rigorous education and student success.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Clement Adebooye shared the breakdown with pride: 3,845 undergraduate degrees, 400 master's degrees, and 100 doctoral degrees. An additional nine students earned postgraduate diplomas, rounding out a diverse class of scholars.

Among the undergraduate first degrees, 1,509 students graduated with second-class upper division honors, while 1,946 earned second-class lower division. Another 220 students received third-class degrees, and three graduated with pass degrees.

The Ripple Effect

The real breakthrough came in August when UNIOSUN graduated its first class of medical doctors. All 90 students who completed the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery program successfully passed their professional requirements and were inducted into the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

These new doctors will soon serve communities across Nigeria, bringing healthcare expertise to areas that desperately need skilled medical professionals. Their success opens doors for future students and strengthens the country's healthcare system.

Professor Adebooye emphasized that the ceremony represents more than academic achievement. It celebrates scholarship, resilience, innovation, and the transformative power of education in shaping futures and building communities.
