Nigerian University Honors First Lady for Child Advocacy

Tai Solarin Federal University of Education will celebrate three changemakers who've dedicated their careers to improving education and opportunities for Nigerians.

The university announced it will award honorary doctorate degrees to First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun, and former Governor Olusegun Osoba during its convocation ceremony running January 23-29, 2026.

Senator Tinubu will receive a Doctor of Science in Childhood Education for her advocacy work supporting women, children, and youth. Her initiatives have expanded access to education, healthcare, and social development programs across Nigeria, creating pathways for young people to build better futures.

Governor Abiodun earned his honor in Education Management for championing the university's transformation into a federal institution. This change expanded educational opportunities for students across the region and strengthened the school's resources and reach.

Former Governor Osoba will be recognized in Political Science for his decades of public service and his role in elevating the former College of Education into a degree-granting university. His vision helped thousands of students access higher education who might not have had the chance otherwise.

The week-long celebration will include interfaith services, cultural performances, athletics competitions, and alumni gatherings before culminating in the degree ceremonies. Undergraduate students will receive their degrees on January 28, followed by postgraduate and honorary degree recipients on January 29.
