Nigerian Woman Reads Bible Aloud for 144 Hours Straight

Habibat Salawudeen Ihiovi-Jack didn't just read the Bible for a few hours. She read it aloud continuously for 144 hours straight, finishing her six-day marathon on June 28th at the Novotel Port Harcourt in Nigeria.

The 27-year-old member of Summit Bible Church started her challenge, called "144 Hours in the Word," on June 22nd. She followed strict Guinness World Records rules that allow only short breaks for sleep, meals, and bathroom visits during marathon reading attempts.

Her pastor, Dr. Andy Osakwe, explained that the challenge aimed to encourage Christians to commit to regular Bible study. The goal wasn't just about breaking a record but about demonstrating dedication to Scripture and inspiring others to do the same.

Salawudeen's attempt now heads to Guinness World Records for verification before it can be officially recognized. She'll need to wait for their review process to confirm whether her feat meets all requirements.

The current world record for marathon reading aloud stands at 215 hours and two seconds. Fellow Nigerian Samson Ajao set that mark in May 2024 in Osogbo, breaking the previous 124-hour record held by Kyrgyzstan's Rysbai Isakov.
