Nigerian Youth Corps Praised for Safe Election Support

Young Nigerians serving their country through the National Youth Service Corps just proved that democracy works best when citizens step up to help.

During Saturday's governorship election in Osun State, corps members deployed as polling station workers followed every safety protocol and operational guideline without exception. State Coordinator Ekeng Kubiangha personally visited polling units across five local government areas to check on the volunteers.

What he found was worth celebrating. The young workers remained safe, professional, and committed throughout the entire process, which concluded Sunday morning when results were announced.

Kubiangha visited multiple locations including Ede South, Ede North, Olorunda, Osogbo, and Egbedore to assess both the safety and welfare of corps members. He checked in at polling units in Alajue 1 and 2, Akoda/Oloki, and Isibo/Buhari-Isola wards.

"Corps members were safe and discharged their responsibilities without fear, intimidation or undue interference," Kubiangha said through spokesperson Catherine Otemuyiwa. They followed directives from both the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters and the South-West Area Office.

The success wasn't just about the volunteers themselves. Officers manning the Situation Room worked alongside Zonal Inspectors and Local Government Inspectors to coordinate and monitor corps members throughout the exercise.

Security agencies protected the young workers deployed across the state. Election officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission responded quickly whenever issues came up from the field.

Why This Inspires

This election shows what's possible when different groups work together toward a common goal. Young volunteers, security forces, election officials, and coordinating teams all played their part.

The Inter-Consultative Committee on Election Security brought various stakeholders together, and that cooperation helped ensure a peaceful and orderly voting process. Nobody worked in isolation.

Kubiangha pointed to this collaboration as a significant factor in the election's success. When institutions support each other and protect volunteers doing important civic work, everyone wins.

The NYSC coordinator reaffirmed the organization's commitment to keeping corps members safe while they serve their country. He urged the young volunteers to continue upholding professionalism and the ideals of national service in whatever responsibilities they take on.
