Nigerian Youth Corps Volunteers Shine in Election Duty

When Nigeria's Osun State held its governorship election last weekend, hundreds of young volunteers stepped up to make democracy work.

Corps members from Nigeria's National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) served as election workers across the state, managing polling stations and helping voters cast their ballots. Despite long hours and challenging conditions, every single volunteer completed their duties without incident.

Ekeng Kubiangha, the state coordinator for NYSC, visited polling stations throughout the election to check on the young workers. He found them following safety guidelines, staying calm under pressure, and treating every voter with respect.

"Corps members were safe and discharged their responsibilities without fear, intimidation or undue interference," Kubiangha said in a statement Sunday. The election concluded peacefully, with results announced the following morning.

The volunteers worked across five local government areas, including Ede South, Ede North, Olorunda, Osogbo and Egbedore. Security personnel protected the workers throughout their shifts, while election officials provided support when issues arose.
