Nigeria's Biggest Literary Prizes Get Fresh New Look

After more than two decades of championing Nigerian creativity and innovation, the country's most prestigious intellectual prizes are stepping into the future with stunning new identities that honor their past while embracing tomorrow.

Nigeria LNG unveiled fresh logos for The Nigeria Prize for Literature, The Nigeria Prize for Science and Innovation, and the newly introduced Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts at a Lagos event on January 29, 2026. The redesign marks the first major visual refresh since the prizes launched in 2004.

Each logo tells its own story. The Literature prize features layered green forms inspired by turning book pages, symbolizing stories unfolding and voices rising. The flowing curves honor every form of Nigerian storytelling, from poetry to prose, while the green palette represents renewal and the fertile landscape of the nation's literary tradition.

The Science and Innovation logo uses intersecting blue orbits that evoke atomic energy and celestial motion. Its circular design represents the endless nature of scientific discovery, celebrating Nigeria's commitment to innovation and evidence-based thinking.

The Creative Arts prize, anchored by a lime-green spiral, captures creative momentum and artistic evolution. Its fluid form reflects the breadth of disciplines the prize encompasses, from visual arts to performance, while signaling freshness and originality.

Sophia Horsfall, General Manager of External Relations and Sustainable Development at NLNG, called the refresh "a strategic repositioning" designed for sustained global resonance. She emphasized that the new identities protect the prizes' legacy while making them more visible and iconic on the world stage.

"Ideas shape societies, and societies that invest in ideas secure their future," Horsfall said. "Literature, science, and innovation are not optional. They are foundational to Nigeria's development."

Professor Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, who chairs the Advisory Board for the Literature prize, praised how the design captures Nigerian storytelling's enduring power. The turning pages remind everyone that Nigerian stories are continuous, rooted in history yet constantly renewed.

Professor Barth Nnaji, leading the Science and Innovation board, noted the logo reflects the discipline and ambition Nigeria needs to industrialize and solve complex challenges. The energy in the design mirrors the spirit required for national transformation.
