Norwegian Rookie Wins First PGA Tour Title in Charlotte

Kristoffer Reitan stood on the 18th green at Quail Hollow in Charlotte, North Carolina, realizing he'd just won the Truist Championship by two strokes. Just a few years ago, he was seriously considering walking away from competitive golf entirely.

The 28-year-old Norwegian rookie shot a final round of 69 to finish at 15-under par, claiming his first PGA Tour victory. He beat out veteran Rickie Fowler and Denmark's Nicolai Højgaard, who both finished two shots behind.

Reitan's journey to this moment was anything but straightforward. After losing his DP World Tour card, he stepped away from the game and contemplated becoming a YouTube golfer instead of competing professionally.

That break turned out to be exactly what he needed. "It helped me find my game again," Reitan said after his win. "It helped me discover my talents again."

The final round came down to a dramatic back nine battle. Fowler surged into the lead with a scorching 30 on the front nine, while third-round leader Alex Fitzpatrick struggled to maintain his advantage.

The turning point came on the par-5 15th hole. Reitan landed his iron shot on the green and two-putted for birdie, taking the lead for good while Fitzpatrick's wedge got caught in thick rough.

Why This Inspires

Reitan's parents invested heavily in his dream, taking him to Spain every Christmas when he was young so he could practice year-round. After choosing golf over soccer as a kid, those winter training sessions became the foundation of his game.

On Sunday, he thanked them publicly for making golf "a very, very high priority" in their household. Their belief in him never wavered, even when his own confidence did.

His perseverance paid off in the most spectacular way. "This is way more than I expected and for it to happen this quickly is just unreal," he said. "A dream come true."

Sometimes the path to success requires stepping back to move forward, and Reitan proved that giving up isn't the only option when things get tough.
