Diverse group of diplomats, officials, and community leaders at New York Eid celebration

NYC Eid Celebration Unites 200+ Across Faiths

✨ Faith Restored

More than 200 people from different religions and backgrounds gathered in New York to celebrate Eid together, showing how faith can build bridges instead of walls. Diplomats, elected officials, and community leaders joined Indian American Muslims for an evening of hope and unity.

When over 200 New Yorkers from different faiths walked into a Long Island City banquet hall on April 10, they weren't just attending an Eid celebration. They were proving that diversity makes communities stronger.

The Indian American Muslims of North America (IAMNA) partnered with India's Consulate General to host the interfaith gathering. Attendees included Hindu, Christian, Muslim, and Sikh community members alongside diplomats and elected officials.

"I can see in this gathering people from different walks of life," said Binaya Pradhan, India's Consul General in New York. He noted this year's turnout was significantly higher than previous celebrations.

Consul General Amna Almheiri of the United Arab Emirates attended as guest of honor. "We have gone through some difficult times back in the UAE and the region, but things are now improving," she told the crowd. "This makes this Eid celebration even more meaningful, a true celebration of peace, unity and hope."

The event drew impressive support from New York leaders. State Senator John C. Liu, Assemblyman Landon Dais, and City Councilwoman Rita Joseph all attended. Deputy Public Advocate Kashif Hussain presented an official proclamation recognizing IAMNA's community contributions.

Imam Sheikh Ahmed Waheed reminded everyone that Ramadan isn't just about fasting. It's about personal growth, strengthening faith, and building empathy for those in need.

The Ripple Effect

The celebration honored two women entrepreneurs, Palvesha Yasin Latiwala and Asra Rashid, for their community service work. Their recognition shows how individual actions create waves of positive change.

IAMNA Chairman Ilayas Quraishi praised the diverse turnout as proof that shared values matter more than differences. When people focus on common ground like charity, forgiveness, and compassion, barriers disappear.

The packed hall reflected what America does best: bringing together people who might never otherwise meet. These connections don't just happen at one event; they ripple outward into neighborhoods, workplaces, and schools across New York.

Events like this create understanding that lasts far beyond one evening of celebration.
