NYC Nightclub Lets Parents Skip the Line—And They're Loving It

Getting into a hot New York City nightclub usually means waiting in a long line, unless you bring the ultimate VIP: your parents.

Joyface, a disco-themed nightclub in Manhattan's East Village, has turned the typical club scene on its head with a simple policy. Anyone who brings their mom, dad, or both gets to skip the line and head straight to the dance floor.

Co-owner Jennifer Schorr named the club after her own mother, Joy. The venue leans hard into 70s nostalgia, from the mirror balls to the music selection, which only features songs from 1984 and earlier.

The unusual door policy started as a creative way to celebrate intergenerational fun. Dancing has always been something people of all ages enjoy, and Schorr wanted to break down the invisible age barriers that make many older adults feel like nightlife isn't for them.

DJ Mike Vosters was initially skeptical when Schorr asked him to spin only disco and oldies. After a decade of playing club bangers in New York, he wondered if it would work. But the all-disco format turned out to be a refreshing change, and the mixed-age crowds loved it.

The response on social media has been overwhelmingly positive. One Instagram commenter captured the spirit perfectly: "Joy gets bigger when generations stop acting like they're supposed to live in separate worlds."

Parents are especially thrilled about the concept. One 57-year-old mom who regularly hits dance clubs until 4am shared that she now brings her 21-year-old son to Latin dance nights. Everyone tells him how lucky he is to have such a fun mom.

Another woman is planning a trip to Joyface with her mother, who used to close down Studio 54 back in its heyday. She's excited to give her mom a chance to relive those glory days on a New York dance floor.
