NYC Pride March Welcomes Millions This Sunday

Millions of people are heading to New York City's West Village this Sunday for the annual Pride March, one of the biggest celebrations of LGBTQ+ community and progress anywhere in the world.

The march honors the 1969 Stonewall uprising, the moment that launched the modern fight for LGBTQ+ equality. Starting at noon on Fifth Avenue and 26th Street, marchers will wind through Greenwich Village to the historic Stonewall Inn, where it all began.

This year's grand marshals represent the beautiful diversity of the community. Former Saturday Night Live comedian Bowen Yang will lead alongside Dominique Jackson, the actress and model who starred in "Pose" and wrote "The Transsexual from Tobago." Peppermint, the first openly trans contestant on "RuPaul's Drag Race," joins Bernie Wagenblast, the beloved voice of the MTA subway announcements, and advocacy group Gays Against Guns.

The celebration stretches across the entire weekend. On Saturday, Youth Pride transforms Pier 16 into a carnival of DJs, live performances, and games for young LGBTQ+ people from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Pride Fest, the country's largest LGBTQIA+ street festival, takes over Fourth Avenue on Sunday with queer artists, queer-owned businesses, and plenty of food. More than 10,000 people are also expected at the grassroots Queer Liberation March, which travels from Union Square to Washington Square Park as a corporation-free alternative honoring the movement's protest roots.

The Dyke March on Saturday celebrates the lesbian community with a powerful theme: "Hot Dykes Melt Ice." Marchers will travel from Bryant Park along Fifth Avenue to Washington Square Park starting at 5 p.m.

The Ripple Effect

What started as two days of resistance at Stonewall in 1969 has grown into a global movement. Today, Pride celebrations happen in cities across the world, each one building on the courage of those who refused to stay silent.

New York's Pride events bring together generations of activists, allies, and community members who continue pushing for equality and acceptance. The weekend showcases how far the movement has come while energizing the work still ahead.

From teenagers at Youth Pride to elders who remember Stonewall, the march creates space for every voice in the community. Organizers have planned sighted guides, wheelchairs, ASL interpretation, and transportation assistance to make sure everyone can participate.
