NYC's Largest EV Charging Hub Breaks Ground in Queens

Queens is getting a supercharged boost for electric vehicle drivers as construction begins on one of New York City's largest public fast-charging stations.

JFK Park broke ground in Springfield Gardens this month, bringing 38 ultra-fast charging stations to a 2.6-acre site near the airport. Each charger can deliver up to 400 kilowatts of power and works with any electric vehicle brand without needing an adapter.

The facility will operate 24 hours a day under a weather-protective canopy with lighting and comfortable seating. Mercedes-Benz High-Power Charging will run the station, developed by Wildflower Ltd on city-owned land.

The project represents a major win for the city's green transportation goals. New York City Economic Development Corporation selected Wildflower through a competitive process that started in March 2024, and the company purchased the land for $8.9 million last December.

The original plans called for 65 charging spots with only 12 rapid chargers. Now the entire facility focuses on ultra-fast charging, cutting wait times dramatically for drivers who need a quick power boost.

This charging hub couldn't come at a better time. As more New Yorkers switch to electric vehicles, the city desperately needs reliable charging infrastructure to keep pace with demand.

The site has been designed with substantial electrical capacity to accommodate future growth. That means as EV adoption accelerates, JFK Park can expand to serve even more drivers without starting from scratch.

Springfield Gardens residents will benefit from increased economic activity and jobs at the facility. Plus, reducing range anxiety makes electric vehicles more practical for New Yorkers who might not have home charging options.
