Solar-Powered Electric Tractor Launches for Small Farms

Small-scale farmers and homesteaders just got a cleaner, quieter way to work their land.

GoSun, an Ohio-based solar appliance company, partnered with Indian manufacturer Moonrider to launch an all-electric tractor with optional solar charging. The machine is designed to replace the noisy, expensive diesel tractors that have dominated small farms for decades.

The tractor packs a 24 kWh battery that delivers about five hours of runtime on a single charge. Farmers can plug it into a standard 220-volt outlet or add an optional 1.1 kW solar array that provides an extra 1.5 hours of work time on sunny days.

"Small-scale farming and property management have relied on noisy, costly diesel utility vehicles for far too long," said Patrick Sherwin, GoSun's founder and CEO. The new tractor lets farmers "literally work in the sunshine" while reducing costs and protecting soil and air quality.

The machine isn't just about going green. It delivers 27 horsepower through a four-wheel drive system with nine forward and three reverse speeds, making it practical for real farm work. The hitch can lift 750 kg, and an optional power generator lets the tractor function as a mobile power source for electric tools in the field.

This launch signals a turning point for sustainable agriculture at the grassroots level. While large industrial farms grab headlines, small farms and homesteaders feed local communities and maintain green spaces that benefit everyone.

Electric tractors eliminate diesel fumes that harm both farmers breathing them daily and the soil that absorbs them over years. The quieter operation means less noise pollution for rural communities and wildlife. Lower fuel and maintenance costs put more money back into small farming operations that often run on tight margins.

The solar charging option takes independence even further. Farmers in remote areas or those recovering from power outages can keep working without relying on fuel deliveries or electrical grids.
