NYU Langone Wins $70M to Speed Medical Breakthroughs

NYU Langone Health just received a massive vote of confidence in its mission to transform medical research into real-world healing. The National Institutes of Health awarded the hospital system nearly $70 million over seven years, the highest level of funding available nationally for translational science.

The money will power NYU's Clinical and Translational Science Institute, a resource hub that helps researchers turn promising discoveries into actual treatments. Since 2009, the institute has supported nearly 5,000 research projects, more than half led by early-career scientists building their futures in medical innovation.

Those projects have already generated impressive results: more than 1,500 new research grants and 1,500 peer-reviewed publications that have improved patient care and public health. The institute provides tools that would be too expensive for any single department to afford alone, from biostatistics support to massive patient data systems and clinical trial networks.

"We are building the infrastructure to move discoveries into real-world patient care faster and at scale," said Dr. Miriam Bredella, the institute's director. That infrastructure makes NYU Langone a training ground for the next generation of medical researchers who will tackle tomorrow's health challenges.

The renewed funding will expand the institute's reach across five key areas over the next seven years. Scientists will deepen community-engaged research, broaden access to health data tools, train researchers at every career level, forge new partnerships across regions, and speed up how quickly clinical trials start and finish.

NYU Langone's network gives it a unique advantage. Partnerships with Family Health Centers, NYC Health + Hospitals, and all 11 schools at New York University mean researchers can engage with an incredibly diverse urban population, turning New York City into a living laboratory for medical advances.
