Odessa Teacher Wins $20K for Students in National Contest

Japhia Venerable's students at Harmony Science Academy in Odessa, Texas just got a major classroom upgrade thanks to their teacher's big win.

Venerable was named one of just 10 national winners in Simple Modern's Stock Your School campaign, beating out educators from across the country. The competition drew more than 775,000 votes from parents, students, and community members who rallied behind their favorite teachers.

Her victory brought home nearly $20,000 in prizes for the elementary school. Every student at the campus will receive a reusable water bottle, while teachers and staff get Getaway Bags for their daily needs.

Venerable herself won a $500 Amazon gift card to stock her classroom with supplies from her wish list. The school also received a $1,000 grant to support campus-wide needs.

The win shows what happens when a community comes together to support education. Thousands of local families, students, and supporters cast votes to help Venerable stand out in a field of deserving educators nationwide.

"When Harmony teachers win, Harmony students win," said Principal Yuksel Kocak. He noted the recognition celebrates both Venerable's dedication and the entire community that backed her campaign.

The resources will make an immediate difference in classrooms across the school. Teachers can use the supplies for hands-on learning activities, while students benefit from everyday essentials that might otherwise strain tight school budgets.

Simple Modern's Stock Your School campaign has become a popular way for communities to champion their teachers while bringing much-needed resources to classrooms. This year's competition saw entries from educators in all 50 states, making Venerable's top-10 finish even more impressive.
