Odessa Teacher Wins $20K in National School Campaign

When more than 175,000 people across America cast votes to honor their favorite teachers, Japhia Venerable rose to the top.

The kindergarten teacher at Harmony Science Academy in Odessa was named one of 10 national winners in Simple Modern's third annual Stock Your School campaign. Her prize brings nearly $20,000 in classroom grants and supplies to her school, including a $1,000 classroom grant, $500 for her wish list, 500 reusable water bottles for students, and 100 bags for teachers and staff.

Thousands of educators from every state were nominated this year. What set winners apart wasn't just their teaching skills but the communities who showed up for them.

Parents, students, neighbors, and local businesses in Odessa organized grassroots efforts to rally votes for Venerable. It's the kind of teamwork that reminds us education takes a village, and this village showed up strong.

"One of the most encouraging parts of Stock Your School is watching entire communities rally behind great teachers," said Mike Beckham, Simple Modern's co-founder and CEO. "More than 175,000 votes represent parents, students, coworkers, neighbors and friends coming together to celebrate educators who are making a lasting impact on the next generation."

The campaign reached all 50 states, with 10 educators from seven states ultimately winning. Each victory represents not just one teacher but an entire community that values education enough to take action.

The Ripple Effect

The impact stretches far beyond one classroom. Those 500 water bottles mean healthier hydration habits for hundreds of kids. The 100 teacher bags boost morale across the entire staff. The classroom grants fund supplies that might otherwise come from Venerable's own pocket, a reality too many teachers face.

Simple Modern, based in Oklahoma City, has made education support central to its mission. The company donates at least 10% of annual profits and has contributed more than $15 million to organizations worldwide since its founding.

"Stock Your School is a reminder that when communities come together to support education, teachers win," Beckham said. "And when teachers win, so do their students."
