Ohio Solar Project to Create 300 Jobs and $125M for Schools

Licking County, Ohio is getting a major economic boost that will support local schools and public services for the next four decades.

LRE (Leeward Renewable Energy) just acquired the Harvey Solar Project, a planned 350-megawatt solar facility that promises to transform the region's energy landscape and economy. Construction starts this fall, with the facility expected to power up by late 2028.

The project will create more than 300 construction jobs, with priority given to Ohio workers. That means local families get first crack at good-paying positions building infrastructure their community will benefit from for generations.

Even better, Harvey Solar will pump more than $3 million into Licking County every single year. Over its 40-year lifespan, that adds up to approximately $125 million supporting schools, emergency services, roads, and other community priorities.

The location wasn't chosen by accident. The solar facility sits less than ten miles from a massive chip manufacturing plant currently under construction and near gigawatts of operating data centers. That strategic placement means the clean energy goes directly where demand is surging, making the electrical grid more reliable and efficient.

"Projects like this help meet growing domestic energy demand," said Eran Maher, LRE's Chief Commercial Officer. The company emphasizes using domestic equipment, which supports American manufacturing jobs beyond just the construction phase.

The facility cleared a comprehensive multi-year permitting process with Ohio's Power Siting Board. That process included environmental studies, public hearings, and detailed plans for protecting the land and screening vegetation.
