Olympic Gold Medalist Oksana Baiul Coaches Young Skaters

An Olympic gold medalist traded the spotlight for something even more rewarding: passing her skills to kids who dream of spinning on ice just like she did.

Oksana Baiul brought her championship experience to Unity Ice Academy's free summer camp at The Rinks in Lakewood this week. The Ukrainian figure skating legend worked one-on-one with young skaters, including eight-year-old Zoe Rodriguez from Bellflower.

Baiul's resume speaks for itself. She won the 1993 World Figure Skating Championships and captured Olympic gold in ladies' singles at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Norway, all before turning 17.

Now she's using that hard-earned knowledge to inspire kids who are just starting their skating journeys. The camp gives young athletes access to world-class coaching they might never experience otherwise.
