Olympic Gold Winners Return to NY for Whitney Day

Coming home with Olympic gold feels even sweeter when you get to celebrate it where you grew up.

Saratoga Race Course is rolling out the red carpet for three New York women who helped Team USA win gold in hockey at the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics. Haley Winn, Hayley Scamurra, and General Manager Katie Million will spend Whitney Day celebrating their victory with racing fans in their home state.

The trio will host a meet and greet from 3 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, August 8, giving fans a chance to meet the champions in person. The track is also dedicating a race in honor of the entire gold medal winning team.

Winn, from Rochester, made quite the splash in her first year as a pro. After helping Team USA secure gold in Milan, the Clarkson University graduate was drafted second overall by the Boston Fleet and earned PWHL Rookie of the Year honors.

Scamurra's journey to gold took a little longer, but the Buffalo native finally reached the top step of the podium in Milan after winning silver in Beijing in 2022. She's been playing for Team USA since 2019 and recently helped the Montreal Victoire win the Walter Cup, the women's hockey equivalent of the Stanley Cup.

Million, from Hannibal, assembled both the 2026 gold medal team and the 2022 silver medal squad as General Manager. She now also manages the legendary 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey Team, the group that pulled off the famous "Miracle on Ice" in Lake Placid.

The Ripple Effect

Whitney Day already ranks as one of the biggest events of the summer racing season at Saratoga, featuring four Grade 1 races including the prestigious $1 million Whitney. Adding Olympic champions to the mix makes it even more special.

The celebration shows how sports can bring communities together across different arenas. Horse racing fans will get to share in hockey's triumph, and young athletes in attendance will see what dedication and teamwork can achieve.
