Oman Signs Deal for 2.7 GW Hybrid Renewable Energy Project
Oman just locked in a massive clean energy project that will deliver power around the clock using solar, wind, and batteries. The 2.7 gigawatt facility marks a major leap toward the nation's goal of 13 gigawatts of renewable capacity by 2030.
Oman is building one of the world's largest hybrid renewable energy projects, and it's designed to keep the lights on 24/7.
The country's renewable developer O-Green Energy just signed a power purchase agreement for the Continuous Renewable Energy Project in Mahmout and Duqm. The facility will combine 2.7 gigawatts of solar panels, wind turbines, and battery storage to provide uninterrupted clean electricity.
Unlike traditional renewable projects that only generate power when the sun shines or wind blows, this hybrid approach stores excess energy in batteries. That means reliable green power day and night, solving one of clean energy's biggest challenges.
O-Green Energy launched just this year with an ambitious mandate from Oman's government. The developer already has 11 gigawatts of projects under development across 12 countries, including major facilities in Botswana.
The timing couldn't be better. Nama Power & Water Procurement, Oman's electricity buyer, plans to develop 7 gigawatts of solar, 3 gigawatts of wind, and 3 gigawatts of storage by 2030 as part of the nation's Vision 2040 initiative.

CEO Mustafa bin Mohammed Al Hinai connected the dots to another exciting development. The project will work alongside Oman's new Mawarid wind turbine factory, building local manufacturing capacity while generating clean power.
The facility is scheduled to begin operations in summer 2028, putting Oman on track to become a regional clean energy leader.
The Ripple Effect
This project represents more than just megawatts. Oman is proving that oil-rich nations can pivot to renewable energy while building domestic industries and creating jobs.
The hybrid model addresses the reliability concerns that have slowed renewable adoption elsewhere. By combining multiple energy sources with storage, the project shows how countries can transition to 100% clean power without sacrificing grid stability.
Other Gulf nations are watching closely. As Oman demonstrates success with large-scale renewables, it's creating a blueprint for the entire region to follow.
The project will power homes and businesses with zero emissions while helping Oman meet its climate commitments. It's the kind of solution the world needs more of.
Within four years, this facility will be pumping clean electricity into Oman's grid around the clock, proving that renewable energy's future is bright and always on.
