Oregon Couple Gets $16K HVAC System Free in Feel the Love

Diane and Brian Johnsen can finally stop worrying about staying warm this winter after receiving a life-changing surprise at their Beaverton, Oregon home.

The retired couple had been facing tough financial times. Diane worked three jobs just to keep up with their mortgage payments while their aging HVAC system slowly failed.

When the old furnace finally gave out and repairs were no longer possible, the Johnsens faced an impossible choice. A replacement system would cost around $16,000, money they simply didn't have.

That's when they learned about the Lennox Feel the Love program. The community initiative provides complete heating and cooling systems to qualifying homeowners at no cost.

After applying, the couple received incredible news. Local contractor Aviator Heating & Cooling would install a brand new HVAC system in their home, including a modern thermostat, completely free.

"Are you kidding?" Brian told KOIN-TV when asked about his reaction. "We were ecstatic."

The new energy-efficient equipment replaced their outdated furnace and will provide reliable heating and cooling for years to come. For Diane and Brian, the timing couldn't have been better as they navigate their retirement years.

Sunny's Take

This story hits home because it reminds us that sometimes help arrives exactly when we need it most. Diane's determination to work three jobs shows incredible resilience, but no one should have to choose between staying warm and paying their bills.

What makes this even more heartwarming is the scale of the Feel the Love program. Since launching in 2009, Lennox has helped more than 3,100 families across the country receive essential HVAC systems they otherwise couldn't afford.

Aviator Heating & Cooling continues supporting families throughout Beaverton, Portland, and surrounding communities in Oregon and southeast Washington. They prove that local businesses can make real differences in their neighbors' lives.

"Especially in our retirement years, it means the world to us," Diane said, her voice full of relief and gratitude.

The program accepts nominations year-round for families facing similar hardships, turning what could be a crisis into a story of hope.
