Packy Hanrahan Wins 3rd PBA Title in Minneapolis Sweep

After years of making it to television finals only to fall short, Packy Hanrahan finally broke through with a commanding performance at the PBA Cheetah Championship on Saturday night.

The Minneapolis crowd watched as Hanrahan swept through the bracket finals, defeating four opponents including Matt Sanders in the championship match. His five-game average of over 263 pins showcased the form that has made him one of professional bowling's rising stars.

"Nothing beats bowling on TV, besides winning on TV," Hanrahan said after his victory. The win was particularly sweet for the 31-year-old lefthander, who had previously reached televised finals multiple times without securing a championship.

Hanrahan earned the fifth seed after Friday's qualifying round at Bowlero Brooklyn Park, where 120 players competed in a 10-game session. From there, he methodically defeated Chase Nadeau, Zachary Tackett, Kris Prather, and finally Sanders in consecutive matches.

The championship match against Sanders demonstrated both Hanrahan's skill and mental toughness. After cruising to a 237-192 victory in the first game, he faced adversity in the second when a missed spare gave Sanders the lead.

With Sanders leaving a 6-pin in the eighth frame, Hanrahan saw his opening. "I told myself, 'Three-bagger and it's yours,'" he recalled, referring to the three consecutive strikes he needed for victory.

The pressure was immense, but Hanrahan delivered. He struck in the ninth frame with a late kick of the 10-pin, then buried another strike in the tenth before rolling the match-winning shot that gave him a 265-227 victory.
