Panama Village Cleanup Fills Dumpster, Eyes Bigger Turnout

When Panama village residents rolled up their sleeves in mid-May, they didn't just clean up their streets. They showed what happens when businesses, churches, and neighbors work together.

Mayor William Schneider couldn't hide his pride as he thanked everyone involved. The Panama Methodist Church organized the day, while Casella Waste donated a dumpster that ended up three-quarters full with bags and bags of collected trash.

Panama Auto pitched in too, recycling tires at no charge. The weather cooperated perfectly, making the whole day feel like a celebration of community spirit rather than just a chore.

"Between the Methodist Church and community members and Casella, it was a great community cooperation day," Schneider told the village board. He noted that having business partners step up to help made all the difference.

George Anderson, who helped run the event, sent the village a note afterward. His question was simple: how can we get even more people involved next year?

The village has an answer already brewing. Officials plan to reach out to local schools earlier, giving students a list of community service opportunities that includes the cleanup day.

The cleanup partnership has been running for several years now, creating a tradition that benefits everyone in Panama. Yes, garbage tends to accumulate again by fall, but that's not discouraging anyone.
