Paralympic Champ Sumit Antil Breaks Own Javelin Record

Three years of waiting ended in a single perfect throw for Sumit Antil on Wednesday in Bengaluru, India.

The two-time Paralympic gold medalist sent his javelin soaring 74.82 meters at the Indian Open Para Athletics International Championships, obliterating his previous F64 world record of 73.29 meters. For context, that's nearly the length of a basketball court, thrown by an athlete who refuses to accept limits.

"I am really happy, I have been waiting for this moment for three years," an exhausted but beaming Antil told reporters after the throw. "It should have been broken long back, but it feels nice."

The breakthrough didn't happen by accident. Antil completely redesigned his technique and run-up over the past year, focusing on converting the power from his approach into explosive force at release. "Earlier, I wasn't able to draw power from my run-up, but now with those changes I am able to convert it," he explained.

At 26, Antil has already collected back-to-back Paralympic golds from Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024, plus multiple world championship titles. But instead of resting on those achievements, he kept pushing himself to rewrite the record books in the F64 classification for athletes with lower limb impairments.
