When Jessie Way's birthday arrives on September 4th, her parents don't want to hear "happy heavenly birthday." They want something more meaningful.

Danette and Tray Way are asking their Manning community to honor their daughter by performing random acts of kindness instead. Jessie died at 31 following a crash involving an allegedly impaired driver, leaving behind her children and a heartbroken family.

"This is not a happy occasion," Danette wrote on social media ahead of what would have been Jessie's 32nd birthday. "Losing her is still very real and raw."

Rather than celebrating a birthday Jessie can't experience, her parents are channeling their grief outward. They're encouraging anyone thinking of Jessie to say a prayer for her children or show kindness to someone else.

The acts don't need to be grand gestures. Paying for someone's coffee, helping a neighbor, offering a meal, or leaving an encouraging note all count as ways to remember her.

The request reflects how the Manning community has continued supporting Jessie's memory. Earlier this year, friends organized the Live Like Jessie Adult Prom & Benefit at The Grill downtown, featuring everything Jessie loved: dressing up, dancing, and plenty of sparkle while raising money for her children's education.
