Philly Airport Breaks Record with 1,200-Foot Cheesesteak

Philadelphia International Airport turned its iconic sandwich into a world record and a heartfelt thank you all at once.

On Tuesday, more than 100 volunteers assembled 1,200 feet of cheesesteaks across the airport's B/C connector. The massive line used 990 pounds of Philly's Best Steak and 225 pounds of cheese sauce, taking about an hour to complete.

Five beloved local restaurants joined forces for the effort: Chickie's & Pete's, Geno's Steaks, Jim's South St Famous Cheesesteaks, Passyunk Steaks, and Tony Luke's. Together, they proved that Philadelphia's cheesesteak culture runs deep.

Guinness World Record official Michael Empric verified every detail, making sure each roll touched the next to qualify. "What I love about this is that it's so specific to the Philadelphia community," he told reporters.

Dana Krawchuk, the airport's marketing and guest experience manager, explained the thinking behind the record attempt. PHL has more restaurants serving cheesesteaks in one location than anywhere else in the city, making it the perfect spot to showcase Philadelphia's most famous food.

The Ripple Effect

The real story started after the cameras stopped flashing. Every single cheesesteak went to airport staff, especially TSA agents who had been working without pay for weeks during a partial Department of Homeland Security shutdown.

Pete Ciarrocchio, CEO of Chickie's and Pete's, captured what made the day special. "Breaking the world record is always awesome, but one of my favorite things today was feeding the TSA with the cheesesteaks because this city is the City of Brotherly Love and these people are working without pay."

The volunteers weren't just making sandwiches. They were creating a moment where Philadelphia could show up for the people who keep travelers safe every day, paycheck or not.

Sometimes the best records are the ones that feed more than just ego.
