Piscataway Firefighters Save Kitten From Storm Drain

When firefighters in Piscataway heard a kitten's cries echoing through the storm drains Saturday night, they knew every second counted. The tiny animal was trapped somewhere in the underground maze near South Washington Avenue and Stelton Road, scared and alone.

The New Market Fire Department responded quickly to the scene. Crews carefully removed several drain covers, trying to pinpoint exactly where the little voice was coming from.

Then came the hardest part: waiting. Firefighters couldn't just reach in and grab the frightened kitten. They had to coax it gently toward safety, speaking softly and patiently until it felt brave enough to emerge.
