Poland Offers to Build Patriot Missiles with Ukraine, US

Poland just offered its homeland as the production site for a game-changing defense partnership that could reshape Ukraine's ability to protect its skies.

Polish Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarnecka presented the proposal during a visit to Washington on Thursday. She suggested Poland, Ukraine, and the United States work together to produce Patriot missile interceptors on Polish territory, addressing American concerns about keeping production facilities safe from potential Russian strikes.

The offer comes after President Donald Trump announced at a NATO summit in Ankara this month that the U.S. would grant Ukraine a license to manufacture Patriot missile interceptors. Ukraine had sought permission to produce these defensive weapons for years, but the question of where to safely build them remained unanswered.

"The offer I presented today on behalf of Poland addresses certain concerns raised by the American side," Sobkowiak-Czarnecka told reporters. "We proposed a trilateral cooperation because the priority is securing the production process and ensuring it takes place in a safe location."

Poland also volunteered to host a maintenance facility for Lockheed Martin's advanced PAC-3 air defense missiles, which the United States committed to establishing somewhere in Europe. The facilities would give Ukraine access to critical defense technology while keeping production out of range of Russian attacks.
